Marc Verstraete breathes new life into Finance at Gaming1

Gaming1 is turning a new page in its history with the official appointment of Marc Verstraete as the new CFO. He will bring his expertise and fresh impetus to our expanding Finance department.

Gaming1's Finance department is entering a new phase in its history. With over 25 years' experience in the energy sector, Marc Verstraete has just been appointed as the group’s CFO. He talked to us about his career, his leadership style and his current and future projects within the Finance department, which is always on the lookout for new talent.

What is your professional background and can you tell us more about your experience as CFO? What motivated you to pursue this career?

I spent 25 years with ENGIE, where I held various financial roles around the world, notably in Brazil, Thailand and Chile. Each time, these roles involved new discoveries and new challenges, always in the exciting field of energy transition.
At Gaming1, I'm discovering a whole new business sector, but I'm finding similar challenges in Finance that I've already encountered at ENGIE.

How would you describe your leadership style?

My leadership style is participative. It's based on collaboration, empowerment, transparent communication and the encouragement of professional development within my team. I believe this approach helps maximize the company's financial performance while fostering a positive and committed work environment.

What personal values and convictions guide your decision-making as a financial leader?

Some of the values and beliefs I share are cooperation, courage, control and courtesy. As luck would have it, they all begin with a C.

What are the Finance department's current main projects and initiatives? What makes them exciting for future team members?

When I arrived, I launched the Mont Blanc project, which defines the 8 priorities for the finance department for the second half of 2023. It's an ambitious but realistic roadmap. The team is aligned with these priorities and committed to delivering. These priorities can be found in the Accounting, FP&A, Procurement, Treasury and Tax departments.

How does the department contribute significantly to Gaming1's strategic objectives?

I see Finance's role as a "Business Partner" to operational staff, helping to shape the future direction of G1. Finance can contribute to strategic financial analysis, resource allocation, cost and efficiency management, reporting and dashboard creation, financial risk management and much more!

What is the team's work culture, and how does it foster collaboration and innovation?

Work culture is a real lever for success. At Gaming1, I discovered a work culture that encourages creativity and flexibility in a professional environment. These are principles that promote collaboration within the team.
