THE SCOPE

As part of its growth, Gaming1 is looking for a Software Engineer (Staff level or Senior with strong potential) to join our Platform Engineering branch and drive the continued evolution of our internal developer platform. This is a role focused on building engineering-facing capabilities that serve our domain-driven product engineering community. This is not an infrastructure/SRE role.

You will work within an established multi-team Platform Engineering branch, collaborating across our broader technology organization (Platform, Product, Architecture). Your mission is to compose foundational building blocks into cohesive, low-friction golden paths while raising the bar on developer experience and engineering practices.

YOUR ROLE

  • Build and integrate platform capabilities: Compose existing building blocks (APIs, services, tools) into cohesive golden paths and seamless engineering experiences; build UIs (portals/dashboards) and CLIs that streamline developer workflows
  • Drive adoption through product practices: Instrument usage (funnels, adoption cohorts, time-to-value, NPS/CSAT), gather feedback, iterate based on telemetry and established KPIs
  • Establish scale practices: Implement versioning, safe rollouts, deprecation policies, and change management for platform capabilities
  • Mentor and uplift the team: Raise the bar on developer experience thinking, product mindset, and engineering practices at scale
  • Influence and align: Write and own improvement proposals, participate in design discussions, partner with architects and product teams to shape technical direction

YOUR PROFILE

Core Engineering Capabilities

  • Proven track record building engineering-facing tools (CLIs, UIs, portals, SDKs) adopted by multiple teams at scale (supporting 50+ engineers), including experience with versioning and upgrade paths
  • Strong software engineering skills, preferably Python (primary platform language); familiarity with .NET is important as our engineering community is predominantly .NET-based and you'll work with scaffolding tools for that ecosystem
  • Working knowledge of React (our organizational standard); can build functional, design-system-aligned UIs for developer portals and dashboard

Product & Collaboration Mindset

  • Product-minded approach: Thinks beyond shipping features to driving adoption and measuring impact; comfortable with telemetry, user feedback, and iterating based on outcomes (supported by product experts)
  • Technical leadership through influence: Mentors teams, leads cross-team initiatives, and elevates engineering practices

AI Fluency

  • Actively uses AI coding assistants and tooling to enhance productivity; can mentor the team in adopting AI-assisted development practices (aligned with our company's AI vision.

Valued experience: Backstage or similar developer portals, Kubernetes/Helm, Datadog/observability tooling, IAM integration

Experience with Scale (Required)
Demonstrated experience with at least two of the following areas:

  • Operating golden paths at scale: Template management, upgrade orchestration, adoption strategies, achieving measurable adoption across teams
  • Telemetry and KPIs at scale: Instrumented funnels, cohort analyses, platform NPS/CSAT; used data to prioritize and iterate
  • Versioned internal products: Managed versioning for APIs/CLIs/templates; executed a breaking change with safe rollout and change management
